Neighbor Dispute

Meet Grandpa, well that's what I call him.  He is a very, very, old Cholla cactus that grows over the fence in the corner of our property.  He is about 7 feet tall with thorns about 1 inch long.
Standing in front of him is the best place for taking pictures in that
area. However, I have learned to keep my distance the hard way.  One day while taking pictures I was so focused on shooting that I didn't realize I had backed up to the fence.  I felt no pain and went on shooting.  Well later on while getting ready to brush my hair I discovered  Grandpa had given me souvenirs of my visit to his domain in my scalp, at least 50  reminders. They didn't hurt going in but they sure hurt coming out. So as you can see it is not always harmony between "neighbors" in the desert but hey Grandpa needs his space !

that is the coolest tree! I have never seen anything like that!

Ouch!! Hate to think of how that felt! Sounds kind of like burrs??

I love how he's all gnarly! Too bad he's a cranky old neighbor!

Brilliant - I love that you call him Grandpa!
I came to say thank you for your really nice comment on my post. I can't post daily because I write such long posts (yawn)and then try to thank everyone who comments and read all the blogs of everyone who follows that there are just not enough hours in the day. Some weeks I can manage three but sometimes it's only two.
I really appreciate your visits and comments - that's what makes it all so worthwhile.
By the way cacti are my favourite plants and I had a huge fat one that we used to sit below a vulnerable window...he was our anti burglar cactus...still not as grumpy and good as yours though.I have some spines in my hand somewhere that he gave me though.
Warmest wishes
Carol
